Angioplasty is a minimally invasive, Endovascular procedure that uses the guidance of diagnostic imaging to help widen obstructed or narrowed veins and arteries. A balloon-tipped catheter is inserted into the narrow or blocked blood vessel and inflated. Upon Inflation of the balloon and expansion of the blood vessel and surrounding muscular wall, blood flow to the narrowed or blocked vessel immediately begins to improve. Additionally, a stent may be inserted at the time of ballooning to ensure the vessel remains open. From here, the balloon is deflated and withdrawn from the body.
